Q: If I buy a GSi plugin, am I entitled to free updates?
Q: Can I run the plugin XYZ on Linux? A: Basically the answer is No. GSi plugins are compiled for Windows and Mac OSX in VST and AU formats and these executables are not compatible with Linux. However, there are methods to load Windows executables on Linux via a Virtual Machine, which is a sort of an Operating System emulator. This is not a stable solution, not easy to set-up and, most importantly, not supported by GSi. We don't want to discourage you from exploring the power of modern open source platforms based on the Linux kernel, so feel free to browse the web for documentations and how-to guides and make your experiments, but unfortunately GSi can't give you support on this matter, and if something goes wrong, it surely is not a bug in the GSi software. Video Tutorial: How to manually install a plug-in in OSX Lion
This short video tutorial from GSi shows how to manually install a virtual instrument in OSX Lion, and it takes VB3 AU as an example, but the same procedure is valid for both AU and VST formats and works in Mountain Lion too.
The problem with OSX from 10.7 is that the USER LIBRARY is hidden by default. You have to press the OPTION KEY onto your computer keyboard while viewing the Finder "GO" menu, and the menu item "Library" will magically appear!
Also, it is necessary that you are logged in as an administrator user in order to set the proper permissions to files and folders.
Video Tutorial: How to manually install a plug-in in OSX Mountain Lion
In this other video I'm doing the same install on a different Mac, this time the OSX is version 10.8.3 and the host I'm using for testing the installation is Mainstage 2.
Sometimes it's not necessary to correct the permissions, and in fact I'm skipping that passage in this video.
