GSi is the acronym of Genuine Soundware and instruments, but GS are also the initials of my name: Guido Scognamiglio.
I started making music since my teen age and I always loved the integration between computers and music. My presence on the internet began in 1999 when I set up a website for free exchange of soundfonts for the AWE and Live! cards, then I registered the domain name SoundFonts.it and set up a whole interactive community with the ability to exchange home-made soundfonts, samples and unfininshed musical projects looking for collaborations over the internet (this service was called "Share your inspiration"). It had quite a good success, more than 7000 users signed up in less than 2 years, but the host provider for the website started putting limitations on file uploads and bandwidth, so eventually I decided to cut it down. Currently, the SoundFonts.it website still holds what once was the list of user submitted soundfonts.
In 2003 I started making plugins with SynthEdit, and gradually passed my knowledge of computer programming from languages like Perl and VBscript (used for my day job) to C++ and I also moved my first steps towards the learning of audio DSP techniques. My main interest is synthesizing sounds, preferring complex methods like Physical Modeling over sampling.
More than music itself, my great love are musical instruments. Biggest love: the Hammond organ; biggest love no.2: the Rhodes piano; biggest love no. 2 ½: analogue synthesizers. In the pictures below you can see part of my "vintage" collection.

GSi is now offering plugins (virtual instruments and effects) for Windows and Mac under the shareware form, which is the best way to make affordable products and give the user the ability to "test drive" the software before unfolding the credit card. GSi plugins are made by a musician with the love for SOUND and MUSIC. These are not "scheduled projects", there's not a product manager or a round table with 12 suit and tie knights deciding what's good for the market and what is not. The "imperfection" of this reality is its one and biggest "feature".
